Who is Alicia Keys?
Alicia Keys is an internationally renowned American singer and songwriter who has a net worth of $150M.

The Early Years
Alicia Augello Cook was born January 25, 1981, in Manhattan, New York City. Her professional name is Alicia Keys.
Alicia is the only child of her mother Teresa Augello, and one of three children of her father Craig Cook.
Alicia’s father left when she was only 2 years old, leaving her mother to raise her as a single parent.
She began to sing at a young age, performing in school shows as early as preschool. She began to take piano lessons after a friend gifted her a piano.
By the age of 7, she was receiving classical piano training and would continue those studies until she was 18.
Alicia also joined the Professional Performing Arts School when she was 12 and took lessons in dance, music, theatre, and choir.
When Alicia was 13 she met manager Jeff Robinson through the youth organization she attended, Teens in Motion.
Jeff became a mentor to her, educating her on the music industry by bringing her along to meeting with record labels and attorneys.
Robinson also introduced her to A&R executive Peter Edge who helped Alicia put together some demos she could show to other executives.
After showcasing her demos to multiple producers a bidding war broke out. Columbia Records eventually won after they offered her a $26,000 white baby grand piano.
Once signed with Columbia, Alicia continued her education and graduated from high school at 16.
From there, she attended Columbia University on scholarship. However, she struggled to balance the time schedule of university and her burgeoning music career.
After a month she decided to drop out of college and focus on music full time.
However, Alicia started to become increasingly frustrated with the lack of control she had over her music as Columbia tried to make a certain image out of her and asked her to work with producers she didn’t like.
With the help of Jeff Robinson and the president of Artista Records, Clive Davies, Alicia managed to negotiate her way out of her contract with Columbia.
Clive Davis was removed from his role at Arista in 2000 so her album was put on hold again.
However, Clive soon started his own label, J Records, and signed Alicia immediately.
