The Early Years

Bethenny Frankel was born November, 1970 in New York City.

Her father, Robert J. Frankel was a horse trainer, and her mother, Bernadette Birk, an interior designer.

Bethenny’s father left when she was only four years old. Her mother got remarried to John Parisella, also a horse trainer the following year when she was five.

Bethenny had a rocky childhood, moving homes many times and attendings lots of different schools, ultimately ending up at a boarding school.

She graduated from Pie Crest School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and then went on to attend the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York City, Boston University for two years. She graduated from New York University with a degree in psychology and communications.

Bethenny had aspirations of becoming an actress so moved to LA in 1992.

She worked on some small jobs and built up some connections. She was a nanny to Paris Hilton and PA to Jerry and Linder Bruckheimer.

She leveraged her connections to start her first company which was an event planning business named In Any Event.

TV Career

In 2003, Bethenny started another company called BethennyBakes. It offered healthy baked goods and a meal delivery service in New York City.

She took the business onto the reality TV series The Apprentice: Martha Stewart in 2005 and made it through to become one of the finalists.

By 2006 the company had gone out of business. However, the competition was the start of Bethenny’s career on reality TV shows.

In 2008 she was selected to be part of the cast for the reality TV show The Real Housewives of New York City.

She left the show in 2010 citing personal reasons, but returned to Real Housewives in 2014, following a three-season absence.

She left again in 2019 saying she wanted to focus on her personal life.

Bethenny was also featured on the Bravo reality show Bethenny Getting Married? with her at-the-time partner Jason Hoppy.

The show followed the couples engagement, marriage, and birth of their daughter.

In 2013, Bethenny landed a job hosting her own talk show The Bethenny Show.

However, it was short-lived and cancelled by 2014.

Business Career

Bethenny has earned the majority of her net worth as the founder and CEO of Skinnygirl Cocktails.

Her big cash windfall came in 2011 when she sold her line of alcoholic drinks to Fortune Brands’ Beam Global.

Reports at the time suggested it was purchased for $120M.

Other products she has launched through the brand are Skinnygirl Market Fresh Deli which is a line of pre-packaged lunch meat that has been certified by the American Heart Association for containing lower levels of sodium and fat.
