I think it’s fair to say that everyone wants to live their best life. 

Fortunately, this can be done by putting into place some daily habits.

This post will show you lots of different simple daily habits to improve your life which you can start to do right away.

The post will be broken down into 5 parts:

  • Self-Love Habits
  • Productivity Habits
  • Health Habits

I feel these are the core areas of life which we all want to improve.

Wellness Habits

Actively looking after your wellness should be near the top of your list of habits for a better life.

There are certain wellness habits that everyone should practice which I will show you in this part of the post.

What is Wellness?

Before we get into the list I think it is useful to provide an overview of what wellness is as it will help to shape your thinking around the habits I share with you in this post.

Wellness is the process of becoming actively aware of and making proactive choices towards a healthy and accomplished life. 

Wellness should be thought of as a journey through change and growth.

Right let’s get into the list of daily wellness habits to improve life.

1. Walk Daily

From reducing the risk of chronic disease to boosting your immunity going out for a daily walk has lots of benefits.

However, one of the biggest benefits is it helps to improve your mood. 

Research shows that regular walking changes your nervous system to such an extent that you will experience a decrease in anger and hostility throughout the day.

2. Get Some Sunlight

Try to get out in the sun as much as you can.

When natural sunlight beams down onto your skin it triggers your body’s production of Vitamin D. 

There is a reason Vitamin D is referred to as the sunshine vitamin.

There are many other benefits such as reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes and lowering blood pressure.

3. Go To Bed By 10 pm

Although probably one of the most boring, this is one of the wellness habits everyone should practice.

By going to bed relatively early every night and keeping it around the same time you are preparing yourself for the next day.

You will wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day.

4. Laugh & Smile

Not only does laughing and smiling often boost your mood, but it also helps the body to release endorphins and cortisol which provides lots of health benefits.

Some of the most important being increasing endurance, strengthening the immune system, and lowering blood pressure.

5. Rise Before The Sun

One of the most important daily habits to improve your life is rising before the sun.

Something I started to do since reading The 5 AM Club and it has totally transformed my mornings.

Rising early has many benefits such as increased productivity, getting in sync with your circadian rhythm, and better overall mood.

6. Drink More Water

A very simple daily habit to improve your life but one that is vitally important.

When we wake up in the mornings our bodies are dehydrated so it’s important that we drink a big glass of water straight away.

Other benefits of drinking more water throughout the day include maximizing physical performance and positively affecting brain function and energy levels.

7. Eat Your 5-A-Day

Getting in your vegetables for the day is incredibly important.

Vegetables are vital sources of many nutrients such as dietary fiber, potassium, vitamin A, and vitamin C that your body needs every day.

Make it a habit to get your five portions every day.

8. Morning Ritual

A good morning ritual sets you up for the rest of the day.

Following a routine in the morning puts you on the front foot to win the day.

9. Supplements

Take your daily supplements.

Making sure we get the right vitamins and minerals into our body every day is really important for our wellness.

Supplement your healthy diet with a multivitamin and some fish oil.

10. Regular Exercise

Another one of the most important daily habits to improve your life is to do some form of exercise regularly.

This doesn’t mean you have to run a 10k every day.

However, make sure you are active every day and at least go out for a walk.

Schedule in some time in the week where you do some exercise that really gets your sweat on too.

11. 7-9 Hours Sleep Per Night

We mentioned going to sleep at a reasonable time earlier on in the post.

However, it is also really important to make sure you get between 7-9 hours of sleep every night.

Any less than that and you will start the day feeling tired.

Any more than that and you will also feel pretty sluggish. You really can have too much sleep.

12. Quality Sleep

As the saying goes it’s not the quantity its the quality.

Well, this can be said of sleep too.

Whilst it is important to get 7-9 hours of sleep a night, it is more important to get 7-9 hours of quality deep sleep per night.

Use one of these sleep tracking apps to monitor how much quality sleep you are getting.

13. Limit Alcohol

I think it’s fair to say, it’s pretty obvious that drinking too much alcohol is probably not very good for you.

Having said that it can also be nice to unwind with a beer or a glass of wine after a long day.

Just be conscious of how much you are drinking.

Limit the amount you have in one night and reduce the total amount of nights in the week you drink.

Better still why don’t you set yourself a goal of not drinking for a month and see how you feel?

14. Stop Smoking

Again, it is pretty clear that smoking is not good for you.

Easier said than done to just stop smoking.

However, you need to get yourself in the right frame of mind before you quit. It has to be something you really want to do. 

Aside from all the health benefits of stopping smoking, you will save a small fortune too.

Use this as the motivator. Save up and treat yourself to a nice holiday at the end of the year.

15. Take Regular Breaks

Working continuously is not good for you either physically or mentally. It is important to take regular breaks.

You could try incorporating the Pomodoro technique. 

This is where you work for 25 mins and then take a 5-minute break. You repeat this four times and on the last time take a 20 minute break.

16. House Plants

Not only do house plants look really good, but they can also boost your mood, productivity, concentration, and creativity.

They also help to clean indoor air by absorbing toxins, increasing humidity, and producing oxygen.

17. Plan Healthy Meals

Another one of the wellness habits everyone should practice is healthy meal prep.

Meal prepping can help you save time and money, but most importantly it will help you to constantly eat better.

If you are in a rush and have no food prepped it easier to pick something up on the go. 9 times out 10 this stuff isn’t the healthy option.

Try planning a week out in advance.

18. Cook Your Meals From Scratch

Start cooking all of your meals with fresh ingredients and from scratch.

If you are not a natural cook then check out these meals you can make in 10 minutes or less – all from scratch.

19. Enjoy Nature

Go out and enjoy everything nature has to offer.

If you are lucky enough to live near some woods or a nice park, make it a habit to go for a walk a few times every week.

The benefits of being out in nature include reducing fear and stress and increasing pleasant feelings.

20. Control TV Time

Limit the amount of time you sit watching the TV.

Everyone enjoys watching a good series on Netflix or a new film that has come out.

However, try to limit the amount of binge watching you do.

Think of how productive you could have been instead of watching TV for four hours straight.

21. Call Relatives

A nice simple one that will make you feel a whole lot better.

There are lots of benefits to taking the time to call your loved ones.

However, I think the most important one is it will just make you feel happy. 

Mindset Habits

Creating the right mindset habits for a better life is crucial to your overall well-being and productivity.

By adopting the right mindset we are able to achieve and overcome the many hurdles we will face in trying to achieve all of our goals.

This part of the post will be a list of daily habits to improve your life that all center around creating the right mindset to drive you forward in your life.

22. Journaling

There are many benefits associated with journaling.

What I like most is it can be used to create clarity in your thoughts.

You can journal about anything you like.

It could be how you feel today, what your goals are for the future or anything else you feel like writing about at that specific time.

23. Have Goals

Setting goals is so important when it comes to any area of your life.

You could set goals for your health, career, relationships, money, etc.

By writing down your goals you are 42% more likely to achieve them. Not only does writing them down force you to get clear, but it also helps to motivate you.

24. Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the process of purposely bringing one’s attention to what is happening in the present moment, without judgment.

Try out the Headspace to practice being more mindful.

25. Gratitude

One of the most simple habits to improve your life is to practice gratitude. 

Make it your goal to be grateful for 3 things every day. Write them down every morning and see how much better your mood is throughout the day.

26. Stop Negative Thoughts

Start believing in yourself more.

Make it your purpose to prove to yourself every day that you are capable of doing what you set out to achieve.

If you take small steps towards your goals every day you will start to eliminate any negative thoughts in your mind.

27. Visualizing 

Visualizing is another one of those incredibly simple habits to improve your life.

It is also used by many of the world’s top athletes.

Connor Mcgregor is a strong user of visualization when he prepares for his fights.

He will visualize all elements of the fight so when it actually happens it just feels like second nature. 

28. Affirmations

Affirmations at their most basic form are positive statements declaring specific goals in their completed states.

If you haven’t used affirmations before here is a list of 100 Affirmations you can look at to get some inspiration from.

Ideally, you want to start creating some that are highly personal to you.

29. Cross Yesterday Off

It can be really useful to use a calendar so you can tick the previous day off.

It enables you to mentally focus on the day ahead and not dwell on the past.

If yesterday was a bad day, it’s gone. You move on to today.

30. Reading

There are so many benefits associated with reading.

If you can build a routine where you can spend 10 minutes reading every day you will get through a serious amount of books every year.

Think of how much extra knowledge you will have.

31. Digital Detoxing

The first thing we pick up in the morning is often our phones, the second thing we do is check social media.

Take a detox – don’t check your social media until the afternoon. 

Make the morning a social media-free time.

32. Get a New Alarm Clock

To try and prevent yourself from picking up your phone first thing in the morning buy yourself a new ‘proper’ alarm clock.

That way it will be easier to resist picking up and looking at your phone first thing in the morning as you lay in bed.

33. Stop Reading The News

The news is often filled with depressing, uninspiring stories that have no positive impact on your life.

This doesn’t set you up to have a great day.

Make a habit of reading less news and start reading something that is useful and informative.

34. Listen To Upbeat Music

Listening to uplifting music is a great way to put yourself in a better mood.

How good do you feel when you put on your favorite bit of music? Pretty good right!

Listen to some music every day.

35. Inspiring Quotes

Reading some inspiring quotes can be extremely motivating.

36. Intentions 

Going into the day with clear intentions is a sure-fire way to get more done and be more productive.

Make it a habit to set an intention every day.

37. Watch The Sunrise

Aside from being incredibly beautiful, watching the sunrise is an amazing way to start the day.

There are loads of benefits to rising with the sun. However, most importantly it will put you in a great frame of mind for the rest of the day.

38. Be Conscious About Your First Thought

A really great habit to get into daily is being conscious about your first thought.

Often your first thought will determine how the rest of your day plays out.

Try to be conscious about the first thing you think about when you wake up.

Over time you will be able to train your brain to think more positive thoughts.

39. Eat Without Looking at TV or Phone

A lot of the time we don’t actually take the time to properly enjoy our food.

Put your phone away and turn the TV off.

Enjoy your food and speak with your family.

Think about how much you enjoy meals when you are at a restaurant.

Try to recreate that experience at home.

40. Less Mindless Internet Browsing

Do you find yourself automatically just picking up your phone and scrolling for no particular reason?

If so, try to be more conscious about your actions.

If you start to notice it is something you are doing you will be more likely to resist the urge to do it.

We waste so much time mindlessly scrolling – try to do something predictive instead.

41. Make Your Bed In The Morning

One of the best daily habits for success is to make your bed every morning.

It sounds simple but it is really effective.

It gives you that sense of accomplishment first thing in the morning which is always a good way to start any day.

A decluttered house is a decluttered mind.

Instead of throwing your clothes over the back of a chair or on the floor, take the time to hang them back up.

Self Love Habits

Often we go about our daily lives trying to take care of everyone else which leads us to neglect ourselves.

It is really important to dedicate some time to daily self-care habits.

Self-care is about doing what needs to be done so you can stay energized and balanced in every area of your life.

Self-care helps to feed your mind, body, and spirit.

43. Block Out Time For Self Love

Before you get started on your self-care habits you need to block out some every day to intentionally work on it.

By blocking out the time in advance you are committing to it properly.

You know you have space in your diary where you will only focus on working on your self-care.

At the start of every week, schedule in your self-care times for the following seven days.

44. Have a Bath

A very simple way to unwind and relax.

Go full out and put some Epsom salt and essential oil in the bath.

It can be good for your own mindset if you look to help others out. 

Among other benefits such as increasing self-confidence and combating depression it generally just makes you feel happier and healthier.

46. Be Adventurous

Push yourself to do something outside of your comfort zone.

It could be something like going on a hiking trip, trying a new sport, or something a bit more extreme like climbing a mountain. 

Doing something that is challenging will make you confident, strong, and proud.

47. Tidy Up

There’s a good reason why Marie Kondo has become an online sensation.

By having a clean, decluttered home, schedule, and life we feel a lot calmer and less stressed.

48. Be Nice to Yourself

Another one of my favourite daily habits to improve your life is to be nice to yourself.

Treat yourself like you would your best friend.

Be kind, patient and understanding. 

Give yourself some positive feedback once in a while – it will do wonders for your self esteem.

49. Hug Someone You love

Hugging has been shown to have lots of benefits.

These include making you feel happier, reducing stress, and boosting your heart health.

Hugging boosts your oxytocin levels (the love hormone) and increases serotonin (boosts mood and happiness).

Start hugging more people you love every day.

50. Go For a Hike

Get up and go for a challenging hike. You combine the benefits of exercise and being out in nature into one.

A great way to improve your mood and get some exercise in.

51. Spend Time With Loved Ones

Working too hard?

Slow down a little and enjoy some quality time with loved ones.

Schedule a date night with your partner, take your children out for the day, or go and visit your mum and dad.

Studies show that people who socialize will generally have higher levels of happiness, among lots of other benefits.

52. Do Something Just For Fun

If you can’t remember the last time you did something just for fun it is probably time to start thinking about doing it.

Not everything has to have an ROI or purpose.

Go to the cinema, dance and laugh with your kids, or go and watch some sport.

53. Remove Toxicity & Negativity

Spend more time with people that are positive and make you feel energized and happy.

Spend less time with people that are negative and make you feel sluggish and unmotivated.

We are the average of the 5 people we spend most of our time with.

Make those 5 people the ones who bring positivity into your life

54. Self-Reflection

In order to self-reflect, you need to take a step back from your busy everyday life.

Take regular time out to think about what is working in your life, and what could be changed to improve it.

Having this self-awareness will lead to clarity and better overall wellbeing.

55. Stop Comparing To Others

If it is often very natural and easy to compare your life with others.

A study from The Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology found that comparing your life to others on Facebook can actually lead to depression and feelings of loneliness.

You are not competing with anyone else in life.

You should just try and be be the best version of yourself.

56. Enjoy Your Alone Time

Sometimes it can be really beneficial to just have some alone time.

Use this time to contemplate everything that you enjoy about your life.

Just relax and take a break from the hectic everyday life.

57. Make a Bucket List

We all have stuff we dream about doing.

Start a bucket list where you record every you want to do.

It will help to motivate you and get you excited to pursue all of your dreams.

58. Say No

Sometimes you just have to say no.

If you feel like your diary is filling up too much with other people’s stuff it is important that you start saying no.

You need to have time for yourself in your diary. Otherwise, you end up helping everyone else out all the time and not working on yourself and your priorities.

59. Write a Thought Diary

Have a thought diary to keep a track of your emotions and feelings. This can be a useful tool to look back on over time.

You can start to identify patterns of what puts you in a good more or a bad mood and adjust accordingly.

60. Listen To a Podcast

Listening to a really good podcast is of my favourite ways to pick up new ideas.

It’s also good to stack it with other tasks, such as whilst you are exercising.

You are getting two things done at the same time.

Try out the Hal Elrod or Mindvalley podcasts.

61. Listen To An Audiobook

Just as good as a podcast is listening to an audiobook.

Easily stackable with other tasks as well, listening to audiobooks is a great way to boost your productivity and learn new stuff.

62. Read a Blog Post

Pick a subject you like to read to read about and subscribe to a few blogs in that niche.

I might be a bit biased but why not subscribe to ours if you would like to receive more posts like this one.

63. Have An Ideas List

Ever have a great idea pop into your head and then as quickly as it enters, it’s then gone? I think it happens to most of us.

Have a specific list where you write down any ideas that pop into your head.

That way you wont forget them. 

Now dedicate some time where you review the ideas list and get rid of any that aren’t great and keep the rest.

Productivity Habits

We all know a friend or colleague who always seems to be getting more things done than everyone else.

They somehow manage to squeeze in double the amount of anyone else.

Are they superhuman? No.

They have mastered the art of productivity and will use certain daily productivity habits to help them get more done than everyone else, every day.

Here are some productivity habits you can start using today:

64. Eat That Frog

Huh? I can see you thinking.

Eat That Frog is a term coined by Brain Tracy is his book Eat That Frog. It means getting the most difficult task done first.

Instead of just randomly ticking things off your to-do list. Prioritize the list and start with the most important task every day.

65. Deep Work

The term Deep Work made popular by Cal Newport in his book refers to scheduling time for an activity where your focus is solely on it.

There can be no distractions during this time.

Just focus on producing your best work for a period of time.

66. Distraction Lists

All of us have times when a distracting thought pops into our head.

It distracts us from whatever we are doing and interferes with our work.

A great habit to form is to create a distraction list.

Every time you have a distracting thought stick it on the list. Then schedule some time where you check the list to see if there are any good ideas.

67. The Eisenhower Matrix

This matrix is often referred to as the urgent-important matrix.

It will help you identify which tasks are urgent and need attending to straight away and those that are less important.

68. The 80/20 Rule

First identified by Italian Economist Vilfredo Pareto. The 80?20 rule says that in any pursuit, 80% of results come from just 20% of efforts.

To be more productive identify those tasks that produce more of the 80% and focus on them.

69. Break Tasks Down

If you have a large to-do list that is not very specific it can be very unmotivating to start any of the tasks on it.

Pick a task and break it down into more manageable tasks.

By seeing it broken down into smaller chunks it will feel a bit more achievable and motivate you to get on with it.

70. Take Breaks

It’s really important that you schedule breaks into your day.

It can be so easy to just want to work throughout the whole day without stopping.

You may get away with this for some time. However, in the long run, it will do you more harm than good.

You will burn yourself out.

71. Make Fewer Decisions

Decision fatigue is a very real thing.

The fewer decisions we have to make throughout the day, the easier it is to focus on our most important tasks.

A famous example of this is Mark Zuckerberg – he has a number of the same grey t-shirts in his wardrobe.

He will wear the same thing every day so he doesn’t have to think about what he is going to wear when he wakes up.

72. Less Email

Most emails you receive are junk.

They are not urgent and they are certainly not important.

However, for most of us, we have these up on our computers all day long, letting it distract us when an email comes through.

Schedule times of the day when you choose to look at and respond to your emails.

It will free up lots more time throughout the day.

73. Repeatable Tasks

It can be really useful to identify any repeatable tasks you have in your daily life.

For example if you are writing a blog post, looking for keyword ideas will be a repeatable task.

Often it is more productive to do these tasks in one time period as opposed to dipping in and out of them

Set some time where you focus specifically on the repeatable task.

74. Plan For Interruptions

The most productive people know that even with all the best planning there will always be some disruption.

By planning for interruptions and having a contingency plan, highly productive people are more able to adapt to any unforeseen circumstances.

75. Start Before You Are Motivated

Most people who want to be more productive look for ways to get motivated and inspired.

In contrast, highly productive people will focus on just getting started.

Getting started is often the hardest part of anything. However, once you start it is much easier to carry on.

James Clear has a great article on this.

76. Stop Multitasking

Despite many people arguing otherwise, multitasking doesn’t work.

The science confirms this.

Just focus on one thing at a time. Do that right and give it your full attention, then move on to the next task.

77. Sharpen The Axe

Becoming more productive often involves feeding the brain with more useful information.

Warren Buffet is famous for attributing much of his success to reading.

Abraham Lincoln said, “give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”

78. Manage Your Energy

Play to your strengths.

If you know you are most productive in the morning, schedule your important work for then.

Likewise, if you are more productive in the evening, that’s when you do your important work.

79. Habit Tracking

A great way to make sure new habits stick is to track them. 

Keep a record of any new habit you are trying to implement and track it every day by putting a big cross on every day you complete the habit.

By doing this it will give you that added motivation to keep going.

80. Prepare Clothes For The Next Day

Get your clothes ready for tomorrow.

That way when you wake up you don’t need to think about what you are going to wear, you have already made the decision.

It will mean you can get right into your stride first thing in the morning.

Health Habits

It probably doesn’t need a long paragraph from me to highlight the benefits of having healthy habits in your life.

Sometimes you just need pointing in the right direction.

This part of the post will show you the most important list of health habits to start using:

81. Learn Something New

Learning helps to keep your brain healthy.

Commit to trying to learn something new every day.

It could be working on learning a new language, or learning how to write better.

Using your brain every day can help to slow the signs of aging and has also been shown to delay the effects of Alzheimer’s.

82. Train Your Muscles

Incorporating strength training into your daily habits has lots of benefits.

It can help to boost your metabolism and improves mood, sleep, and energy levels.

83. Practice Your Balance

Having good balance has benefits if you are both young or old.

However, no matter your age, good balance helps with better muscle tone, more confidence, and a healthier heart.

Start by trying out some yoga or Tai chi.

84. Use The Stairs

One of the most simple habits to improve your life is to start taking the stairs more often.

If you work in an office, make it your daily habit to take the stairs and not use the lift.

If you commute to work, walk up the escalator, don’t just stand and wait until you reach the top.

85. Sit Up Straight

Having good posture can reduce aches and pains and increase lung capacity.

If you sit at a desk all day, have a little post-it note reminding yourself to sit up and not slouch.

Also, try walking with your shoulders back and head held high and see how more confident it makes you feel.

86. Balance On One Leg

A really simple habit to start. However, one that is surprisingly useful.

Balancing on one leg helps to train your neuromotor, which helps you to improve your balance and agility.

Incorporate it into your daily life by doing it whilst you are brushing your teeth or combing your hair.

87. Eat Greens and Lettuce Regularly

By regularly I mean in at least 2 of your main meals per day.

Green fibrous foods are incredibly good for you.

They are loaded with vitamins and minerals.

Eating lots of greens can help to reduce the risk of obesity, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

88. Creative Substitutions For Unhealthy Food

It’s really important that you try to remove food from your diet that is high in calories and low on health benefits.

Try to eat whole grains, healthy oils, and low-fat dairy versions of foods that you normally eat.

A favourite substitution for me is wholemeal pasta. It tastes better than normal pasta and is also much better for you.

89. Stand Up Regularly

It can be really easy to be sat down for long periods of the day, especially if you work in an office.

A really simple habit to incorporate into your life is to try and stand up more often.

If you have a desk that can be adjusted upwards, do that for a few hours a day.

If you can’t do that, make it a habit you take a brief 5-minute walk around the office every 45 mins.

90. Pay Attention To Hunger Signals

This one sounds very simple but can sometimes be difficult to put into practice.

When your stomach is grumbling, make sure you eat.

When you feel full, stop eating, even if you have some food left on your plate.

91. 10,000 Steps

A really common health goal of today is to get your steps in.

Most people shoot for around 10,000 per day.

This may sound like a lot a first, but seeing the number tick down throughout the day will give you that added boost of motivation to push on and reach your goal.

92. Stretch Several times per day

Stretching helps to keep us nimble and supple and is something that should be done at any age.

93. Do some Calisthenics 

Calisthenics is a great simple way to get your workout in at home.

Really simple to do as it is mostly bodyweight exercises.

94. Skipping

If it is good enough for elite-level boxers to do every day, then it is good enough for us.

An exercise you can do anywhere – all you need to do is take your skipping rope with you.

It gets your lungs going more than you would think.

95. Try Some Coconut Oil

It also has lots of healthy fatty acids.

Who doesn’t like a smoothie?

A great way to get lots of nutrients in one big hit.

Add in all your favourite fruits and see what it tastes like or check out these recipes for some ideas.

97. Drink Green Vegetable Juice

If smoothies aren’t your thing try a green vegetable juice

It will help to rev up your metabolism. You could try one made up of spinach, kale, ginger, apple, and ice water.

98. Have a Cold Shower

There are lots of benefits to having a cold shower. These can include lowering blood pressure and improving blood circulation.

I know a cold shower doesn’t sound too appealing but give it a go and see how you feel.

If you don’t brush your teeth twice a day already it is definitely something that you should try doing.

Brushing your teeth twice a day has lots of benefits and is an easy habit to incorporate into your daily routine

100. Brush Your Teeth with Your Weak Hand

This is a technique that I first heard about from renowned brain trainer Jim Kwik.

It’s going to feel strange at first, but give it enough time to start seeing some benefits.

It is believed to help build new neurological pathways in your brain.

101. Try The Wim Hof Method

A pretty tough routine to add into your day but one you should definitely try.

It is a combination of breathing exercises and a cold shower.

To Round up

Hopefully, this MASSIVE list of daily habits has given you some great ideas.

There is no right or wrong way to go about picking the ideas off of the list.

The key is to pick some and get started.

Don’t try and do too many at the same time as you will struggle to keep up with any of them.

My advice is to begin by picking 4-6 and stick with them over the next few weeks and see how you get on.

If some of them don’t feel like they are working, switch it up.

Get rid of some and put some more in there. Keep experimenting until you find the core habits that work.

As you get more comfortable and consistent with the core habits, then start adding in some new ones.
