Ellen Pompeo is a world renowned actress, who has a net worth of $80M.

Ellen is probably most well known for her starring role in Grey’s Anatomy.

The Early Years

Pompeo was born in Everett, Massachusetts, on November 10, 1969, the daughter of Joseph Pompeo and Kathleen Pompeo.

Her father was of Italian, English, and Irish descent, and her mother of Irish ancestry.

She was raised as a Catholic.Her mother died of an accidental painkiller overdose when Ellen was four.

Her father remarried soon after; he died on September 1, 2012.

 In 2006, Pompeo said, “I think having my mother die at such a very young age—when she was 39—made me appreciate life so much.”

She has five older siblings: three sisters (Maureen, Kathleen and Suzanne) and two brothers (Joey and Dean).

She was nicknamed “the pencil”, and “stracciatella” (gelato flavor). She worked as a bartender in Miami when she started dating her then boyfriend.

They moved to New York City in 1995, where she was approached by a casting director to appear in ads for Citibank and L’Oreal.

Grey’s Anatomy Salary

For seasons 11 and 12 Ellen earned a total of $300k per episode, roughly $7.5 million per year.

For seasons 13 and 14 she earned $350k per episode, roughly $8.7 million per year.

At this point, she did not own any backend equity points on the show. After the 14th season wrapped, Ellen began negotiations for a new contract.

When negotiations were completed Ellen walked away with a per episode pay bump to $575k.

That brought her single-season salary up to $14.4 million. But that’s not all! She was also given two backend percentage points on the show’s syndication profits.

Every year that brings Ellen an additional $6-7 million. In total, starting at season 15, Ellen will earn a bit more than $20 million for “Grey’s Anatomy.”

And that’s still not all! Ellen’s new deal also gives her a producer credit on future Grey’s spinoffs and pilot commitments for her production company.
