They have the same amount of time, every day, as you and me

The difference?

They have figured out how to use their time more efficiently.

This post will show you lots of tips on productivity you can start using right away.

Let’s jump in.

21 Tips On Productivity

Eliminate Distractions

Remove anything from your workspace that can cause unnecessary distractions.

This could be leaving your phone in another room, turning off email notifications or having no computer in the room at all.

Eliminate everything you don’t need and focus on the task at hand.

Prioritise Tasks

Work out what needs to be done on any given day and then order the list by priority.

This way you will make sure that you complete your most important task before anything else gets in the way during the day.

Batch Grouping

Group smaller tasks into batches.

This could include things like replying to email, making phone calls, writing blog posts etc.

You will save a lot of time by getting them all done at the same time as opposed to flicking between them all throughout the day.

Stop Multitasking

Ever heard people say they are good at multitasking?

Well, multitasking doesn’t work if you are trying to increase your productivity.

Numerous studies show that for optimum productivity you should stick to one task at a time.

Get Started

Sometimes it can just be as simple as getting started.

It can be easier to sit there and procrastinate about what you need to do, without actually getting anything done.

Once you get going, you will find you get in a rhythm that can last for hours and you will get plenty done.

Get Up Earlier

Getting up an hour before everyone is a simple way of finding some quiet time to get more things done.

Plan out what you are going to do the night before so you don’t need to think too much when you wake up.

Once you start doing this it can easily turn into a habit as you get so much more done.

Have An Evening Routine

Having the right routine in the evening can dramatically increase your productivity the next day.

Lots of research show that exercise is a great way to increase productivity.

That could be getting some exercise in before work, during lunch, or even after work.

The effects are profound and will increase your overall wellbeing and help you to get more done throughout the day.

Have Big, Clear Goals

If you don’t have any goals it can be really hard to find the motivation to get anything done.

More importantly, set some goals that are a challenge and exciting.

This will help you wake up each day with purpose to get stuff done.

Document what you have done each day.

At the end of each day take 15 minutes or so to write down what you managed to get done and what you didn’t manage to do.

If there is a lot from your list you didn’t manage to do, write down why and how you plan to overcome this for next time.

Eat That Frog

Eat that Frog.

In other words, get the most difficult task done first thing in the morning.

A great book by Brian Tracy.

By getting the most difficult thing done first, it frees you up to get much more done through the rest of the day.

Say No

Don’t let other people run your day.

If you have a clear plan of what you need to achieve on any given day, don’t let other people’s priorities get in the way.

Get you what intended to get done first, and then only if you want, use your spare time on other tasks that were not planned.

Turn Off The TV

One of the simplest tips on productivity.

By having the TV on in the background it’s really easy to lose focus on what you are meant to be doing.

Keep it turned off whilst you are working.

Better still, set yourself a challenge to keep the TV turned off for a week and see if that helps with your productivity.

Take Breaks

Sounds counterproductive – take a break to get more done?

However, taking frequent breaks helps to keep your mind clear and fresh.

By taking a break you are recharging your batteries to get yourself back focusing on your task.

Time Blocking

Block out time for certain tasks and have them scheduled in your diary.

If a key component of your job is to make sales calls block out a specific time and put it in your diary.

Blocking the time out gives you a clear focus to work on just that task.

Having it scheduled in your diary means the chances of you actually doing it go up considerably too.

Do you have lots of low-value tasks you need to get done but know your time could be better spent elsewhere?

If yes – you need to outsource more.

Here is a list of companies you can outsource your everyday low value tasks to:

  • Get Friday
  • UpWork

More Quality Sleep

Getting the right amount of quality sleep is crucial to how you perform the following day.

When we wake up feeling fully rested and refreshed it gives us that added boost to get up and attack the day.

Feeling drowsy and tired has the opposite effect.

Try going to bed an hour earlier.

Use a Habit Tracker

If you have got certain habits you are looking to put in place that will make you more productive, use a habit tracker.

Tracking any habit helps to reinforce the habit, which in turn leads to the habit becoming automatic over time.

Making sure you continue to check in on yourself really helps to keep you productive over longer periods.

Ask yourself questions such as, “is this the best use of my time?”

You will find if it’s something that isn’t productive, you will focus and turn your attention to something else.

Have a To Do List

Having an idea of what you need to do before you do it really helps your productivity levels.

Writing a list of what you need to do for the following day, clears the mind and allows you to focus on each task.

Don’t forget to order them by priority.

Figure Out When You Are Most Productive

Not everyone is the same.

Some of us are more productive in the mornings and some of us more productive in the evenings.

Work out when you are most productive and work your schedule around that.
